Touch Rugby US Nationals October 2019

Carol O’Brien, Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor at Align traveled with Cayman’s Touch Rugby teams to San Diego for the 2019 US Touch Rugby Nationals.

In the run up to the trip Carol treated a number of players and managed injuries. Treatment programs included a mix of manual therapy, medical acupuncture and soft tissue work to settle pain down. Most importantly the treatment plan consisted of establishing a graded loading program unique to the patient to progress their strength/endurance/power/agility etc. to ensure they were ready for return to play status. During the tournament Carol did any strapping that was needed and dealt with any injuries as they occurred along with proving physiotherapy treatment in the evenings to aid recovery.

Most teams had three matches per day which is very tough on the body but they all pulled through and gave it their very best. It was a great experience working with the teams, both in the run up to the trip and also during the competition. Carol is already looking forward to next season!
